Case study: Space saving packaging for glass tube manufacturer
Overview
Upon a site visit to a producer of delicate glass tubes, we identified where improvements could be made to their packaging.
We found this manufacturer was using pre-formed polystyrene end caps and collars that took up a considerable amount of their warehouse space.
The problem was not just storage, but also stock control. Each box of glass tubes required 2x end caps and 1x middle collar, meaning different quantities of different SKU's/part numbers.

The environmental impact also played a part in decision making. While polystyrene can be recycled, it is generally recognised as bad for the environment.
We knew we could supply a superior product that would bring many advantages, all while continuing to provide reliable protection.
Our Solution
To save storage space, we bespoke designed a protective packaging product that can store flat when not in use.
The solution is a single interlocking foam component that can be used for all requirements.
Fast and easy to assemble, with no adhesive or tape required. Using less material to manufacture, the new packaging will reduce this customer's carbon footprint and environmental impact.
The product can be easily disassembled, folded flat and reused or recycled.

Results & Key Benefits
- 57% saving on warehouse storage space.
- Simpler procurement with just 1x stock component SKU/part no.
- Cutting transport CO² emissions.
- Reduced waste and carbon footprint.
- Reusable and recyclable.
