A Guide to Packing Tapes and Dispensers
It can sometimes be tricky to understand packaging tape and tape dispenser sizes. This post will aim to make things simpler and clearer when it comes to choosing the most suitable dispensers for your tape.
Due to the fact that '50mm' and '75mm' measurements can be used to describe both tape core diameter and also tape width, it's easy to get a bit mixed up.
As a general example, when tape is described as '50mm tape', this would be referring to the width. Saying '75mm tape' would be a wider 75mm width tape.
Standard tapes and dispensers
Most standard packing tape is usually 50mm wide, with a core of approx 76mm (sometimes called 75mm core).
There are also options for wider 75mm wide tape, but still with approx 76mm core.
Wider tapes, like these polyprop 75mm packing tapes, can be more suitable for securing heavier boxes.
Standard pistol grip dispensers can be purchased to suit each of these tape width options, 50mm or 75mm wide, both with 76mm core.
Be aware, tape widths can vary slightly by a few millimetres, you may sometimes see descriptions of 48mm wide, or 72mm wide.
Don't worry, these slightly narrower tape widths will still fit 50mm or 75mm wide dispensers.

e-tape brand tapes and dispensers
You'll also find that some tape manufacturers produce tape with a 50mm core, such as e-tape branded tape. The 50mm core allows for much more tape per roll, so fewer roll changes are needed.
These are available in widths of 50mm and 75mm.
Options are 50mm wide tape and 50mm core, or 75mm wide tape and 50mm core.

ZeroTape tapes and dispensers
Another popular brand of packing tape is ZeroTape, a high volume roll tape system with 50mm core.
ZeroTape rolls will only fit on ZeroTape dispensers, they have a special core that locks in place.
But be sure to choose the correct tape width, there's 50mm wide and 75mm wide tapes, along with ZeroTape dispenser options for each width.
- Core: 50mm special (ZeroTape rolls only fit ZeroTape dispensers)
- Width (standard): 48mm
- Width (wide): 72mm
